Pride Month

Pride Month

It’s Pride month, y'all! Pride began in 1969 as a series of protests and riots led by strong LGBT organizers, and we continue to celebrate their hard work every year. Black trans women led the way, and we follow in their footsteps, knowing the work is not complete until all of us are safe. FedUp works to foster an inclusive and empowering environment in Ypsilanti, especially as queer individuals face disproportionate rates of poverty and food insecurity. We’ll be celebrating and uplifting our community members at the ELCA’s annual Pride Worship on June 29th! Details provided below, we hope to see you there!

FedUp in the Big City!

FedUp in the Big City!

Hi from New York! Some of the FedUp crew is in the big apple for a couple of days, here’s what we’ve been up to: we went out to the Stonewall Inn (Monique and Tajalli did karaoke at the piano bar there!), we walked around Central Park, and had some delicious baked goods. Pastor Anna is recording a segment on TV, more to come soon!

Juneteenth

Juneteenth

Alongside pride, we want to take a moment to recognize Juneteenth, which marks the end of slavery in the United States when Union soldiers reached Galveston, TX on June 19, 1965, a full two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Join us on June 21st for Ypsilanti’s 5th annual celebration at the YPDL, where we will have information about food equity and how it relates to racial justice. And on the following Sunday, come see our lovely partners at Love Washtenaw preach at 1 pm. Details provided below, we hope to see you there!
